Set all permission bits at once using numbers, octal form. Each numeral represents a number in base 8 and corresponds to a permission set.
APT package handling utility
The command-line tool for handling packages, and may be considered the user's "back-end" to other tools using the APT library.

The process of proving the user's identity
The kernel does not know anything about authentication: usernames, passwords, etc. Almost everything related to authentication happens in user space.
We can use standard libraries to perform repetitive tasks, so all you'd normally need to do to get a username is call a function like getpwuid() in the standard library after you have the answer from geteuid()
Defines what users are allowed to do
The kernel knows authorization rules for how to run setuid executables and how user IDs may run the setuid() family of system calls to change from one user to another
Run autoconf to turn our configure.ac into a configure script, and automake to turn our Makefile.am into a Makefile.in
A suite of programs
These scripts query the system on which they run for: environment settings, platform architecture, and the existence and location of required build and runtime dependencies
Includes autoconf, automake, and many other programs, all of which work together to make the life of a software maintainer significantly easier
Takes the pain out of setting up an install process that will run consistently on many different flavours of Unix
They store the gathered information in configure.ac to be read by configure during the installation phase
